The second squadran of flying ants desend on Pennines waters.......

This week sees the second lot of flying ants descend on Pennines waters, after a quite a long dry spell the ants have started to creep out of the stone walls and also get blown in from the steep hillside on the top lake. The arrival of the ants is another plus for the fishermen as it brings the fish up to the surface to gorge on plenty of easy pray. Patterns like ribbed cdc buzzers and orange dries like hoppers and klinkhammers fished near the margins always do well when the ants are around. On brighter days try and fish deeper with black damsels or olive mini fritzs around the 6 foot mark. Fish of the week goes to Mr John Passelow from Ottley with a 11lb plus brown trout caught on a black pennel fished from a floating line. Top rod goes to Mr Paul Shippley from Wrexham with 19 fish with 3 fish for 26lb, best being 16lb mainly caught on a olive mini fritz fished around 5 to 7 foot. We are in the process of designing a chart to show you all of Pennines stats on a weekly basis, including total fish caught, best weight, average weight etc this will be on the home page. Rod average is at 7.5 with a average fish weighing in at 4lb 9oz.
