The Easter holidays brings another 20lb+ fish to Pennines banks..........

Pennines biggest fish of the 2012 season was caught this week weighing in at 22lb 6oz caught by Mr Gilbert Raye from Royton, the fish was caught on a regular big fish fly the "cats whisker" and it was fished from a floating line. The best tactics have continued to be the slim buzzers with Mr David Manning from Rossendale catching first a 19 then 34 in his last two trips. When fishing this method you must fish into the windy corner where the natural insects have been blown into. The lure men have still done well with mini damsels and rabbit lures working well on intermediate lines. A hot tip for the next few weeks is the Pennine special the floating fry, this is a pattern that always fishes well early season on a floating line. It can be fished still or even fished at speed to make a bow wave in the water, believe me as a surface fly it will out fish any dry fly in late spring!! just don't ask me why!! Fish averages work out at 4lb 4oz with a average catch rate per angler at 9 fish per session.
