August is always a month fishery managers are glad to see the back of.............

With the arrival of September we can can hope for some more settled weather, as a fishery manager August can be a bit of a pain with generally hot weather and long dry spells, this year we have not been graced with much sun but we have had plenty of rain and wind which at times has hampered the fishing due to the killing off of any flylife. September is forecast to be quite a descent month with even a bit of late summer sun due in the early weeks, this will hopefully start to bring a more settled pattern to the fishing. Tactics for this week has all been about depth with the top lakes fish being in the first couple of foot, but the lower lakes fish staying much deeper at around 8 to 10 foot. Top patterns continue to be daddies and olive damsels with also a black mini blob as a wild card. Fish of the week goes to Mr Peter Rothwell from Nelson with a stunning full finned rainbow caught on a white lure fished from a intermediate line from behind the cages on the top lake. Angler of the week goes to Mr John Dixon with 22 fish caught on a "challenging day" mainly to black blobs. For all the stats regarding fish averages, rod numbers etc please look at "hows it fishing on the home page" although the grapths are in there early days over time you should be able to get a pattern of the quality of fishing here at Pennine.
